Max Bygraves sprung to mind when this title popped into my head, a celebrity and author of many books., A memory from the past, maybe unknown to many people now. His books tell his life, challenges and experiences. A true life account!
This week is "National Story-Telling" week and I have a story to tell. Well, when I say story that often conjures up something that is made up, but IRLEN SYNDROME CERTAINLY IS NOT!
In the 1980s the American Psychologist Helen Irlen discovered and created the Irlen method. It is now being used in over 42 countries. She discovered that, for many individuals, coloured overlays and lenses could be used to lessen the problem.
During the time that I have been a screener I have witnessed many life changes. These are from children and adults that have started with the Irlen screening (the first stage of the process) and have progressed on to the filters. Each filter colour is individual to the wearer and can be a combination from thousands.
How many parent are being deprived the pleasure of telling their children a story of of diving themselves in a book themselves.
I recently screened a child who apart from all the scary distortion she experienced described that words swapped places and came up from the line below. This was absolutely confirmed when asked to read. First word was attempted followed by word three then word five, with a little addition from the line below. What chance had that child of ever reading a complete sentence or comprehending or recalling.
